What Will Happen To Michael Jackson's Children?

Posted Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:17pm PDT by Sarah Parsons in Stop The Presses!

The death of Michael Jackson at the age of 50 has raised many questions about his health, finances, and legacy. But at the top of many people's list of questions is the fate of his three children: How are they coping, and who will get custody of them?

Debbie Rowe, a nurse who Jackson married in 1996 and divorced in 1999, is the mother of Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11; Prince Michael II (also known as Blanket), 7, was reportedly born to a surrogate mother, whose name has never been released.

A former Jackson attorney and family friend, Brian Oxman, told Radaronline Thursday that Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother, is the likeliest candidate to initially look after the children:

"Probably Mrs. Jackson will take care of them, she loves them dearly," Oxman said.... [The children] are currently still in L.A. and with a nanny."

Oxman later told "The Early Show":

"I suspect that the death of Michael Jackson is only the beginning of the legal battles over not only his property, but also his children."

Debbie Rowe could also make a play for Prince Michael and Paris. It is unknown if Jackson designated a guardian for the children in a will, but Rowe could claim that her care is in the best interest of her children, and head to court. E! reports:

If Rowe decides to make a bid for at least the two children she carried, she has quite a case, too....

Although many reports indicate Rowe legally waived her parental rights over the two kids after her divorce from Jackson, that decision actually was reversed by a judge. Eventually Jackson and Rowe reached a specific agreement of their own: Rowe retained parental rights and got a fat check while Jackson retained custody.

The children, who have lived at Neverland Ranch and in Ireland and Bahrain, were most often seen in public with their faces covered by veils or masks. In 2002, Jackson was highly criticized when he dangled Blanket, then an infant, over the balcony of a Berlin hotel to show him to screaming fans below.

The three children, like Michael and his siblings, will be growing up amid a blizzard of media attention. While the Jackson family is often in the spotlight for their tumultuous relationships, this may provide an opportunity for the family to heal past wounds.

Mark Lester, godfather to Jackson's children, told the "Today" show:

"The Jackson family is a very large family, and, you know, in times of need families get together and put aside all the differences."

This is all so sad, but does anyone commenting on this blog know how to spell, or use proper grammer. Good heavens.

Michael's music will be long treasured.

62. Linda -
Has anyone done a DNA test to prove that these are truly his children? Would be interesting don't ya think? In any case, the mothers of these children should be allowed to raise their children.

I think Bubbles should get custody of the children. He probably has more common sense then the whole family.

Watch the money grabbing frenzy that his brothers and sisters will partake in.

I think the kids will be better off. They will not have to live the bizzare life style that Michael inforced on them. Now maybe they can live a long healthy normal life. Sorry but it's true. He was one strange sick puppy.

65. TEE -
The older kids should chose who they want to live with. Blanket should live with Michael's parents. If Blanket's mom should come forward and want him then he should go with her.

66. Karrah M -
Get these poor children away from ALL of the Jackson family, they have messed up enough children already and these poor kids will already need years of counseling to get over Michael's damage. I don't care of you can sing, if you sleep with children that aren't yours, there is something wrong with you.

67. Reed K. -
The kids should be raised with their family. The Jacksons should get custody of the children. Even if Michael was not the biological father he was still their father.

68. Leota -
Michael was indeed a black man with black genes, he bleached hisself maybe he bleached the kids too.

The kids should go with the mother...the kids do not even look like the jackson family or mix with black i dont believe the kids are really MJ's but since he rasied that is the only father they know....

God Bless the Jackson family and those 3 precious children and i hope everything is done with the best interest in those kids....

I think the family should have the kids. Anyone else will just be like a stranger to them. They need their family. I know where they stand...I too lost my father, so I know what & how they are feeling.

My prayers go to the Jackson Family in this time of sorrow...

We love the Jackson Family & We love Michael!

~MJ, King of Pop, will live on!~

When I was pretty young I really liked Michael Jackson, & as time passed after he was accused of child molestation I had a different feeling for him, pretty disapointed. His children should go with the mother no doubt, and God forgive him for his wrong doings,, His money sounds like his had tons of debts so what is there to fight for,, I feel bad for children maybe they wont even be able to get enough.

80. India -
I don't think that the mother (Rowe) should get the children. It's obvious that she didn't want them to begin with so why would she want them now? His family should take them...I don't care if they look like the Jackson's or not!
