Worst MMVA Fashion

Posted Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:12am PDT by Chloe Tejada in Sound Check
In part one of our daily look at the MuchMusic Video Awards, which air this Sunday, Chloe listed the most cringe-worthy performances of past MMVAs. Today, she takes on questionable moments in MMVA fashion.

Let's not kid ourselves - the MMVAs are not the most fashionable awards show. I mean, Pamela Anderson hails from our fine country and she is quite possibly the worst dresser in the history of C-list celebrities. Clearly, Canadians need some help when it comes to their sartorial choices (paging ex-VJ Sook-Yin Lee!)

However some past MMVA red carpet moments really made us shudder in horror. Here are our top picks for the worst.

7. Rihanna

Like a toned-down version of Elvira. A little less witch-like but still scary. The dress seems more fitting for Cruella de Vil, not a young, hot pop star. We like you better in leather RiRi.

6. Avril Lavigne

There are better ways to show your patriotic roots than hand sewing a mangy Canadian flag on a hideous "outfit." I get Avril doesn't like to go glam at award shows, but this faux-punk phase has got to go.

5. Paris Hilton

Or should we call you Headmistress Hilton? This lacy ensemble just makes the heiress/Queen-of-All-That-is-Tacky look old and frumpy. The chest area offends me the most. It looks like she inserted a frilly plate on top of her dress.

4. Fefe Dobson

Fefe who? Exactly. This outfit might have ruined any chances of her becoming a successful singer. It looks like she doesn't care at all what she wears. I think the last time I wore ripped jeans was in Grade 9. Huge mistake Fefe!

3. Girlicious

The girls offended audiences with their awful performance, and they offend anyone with a sense of fashion with their awful ensembles. Fire the stylist! This failed S&M look is closer to Halloween hooker costume horror show. Major fail.

2. Pamela Anderson

My poor eyes! Pammy certainly tried her best to win the Worst Dressed award in this shiny, barely-there unflattering ensemble. Hello! Elizabeth Berkley wants her "Showgirls" stage outfit back. And her taste in men doesn't help her cause.

1. Jay Manuel

Maybe Jay wanted a sparkle-off with Pam Anderson? You would think that the host of Canada's Next Top Model (pictured with Season One host and model Tricia Helfer) would know how to dress. But his ill-fitted blazer, too-loose pants and tacky leopard shoes leave me wondering whether he knows anything about fashion. Guess being Tyra Banks' minion doesn't help.

But what do you think about my picks? Think I'm dead wrong? Got an even worse offender I didn't list? Please comment!

Awards show EH? Looks like a halloween party. A bunch of freaks dressed to suit their freaky lifestyes and music that is not music at all. The guy with Pam Anderson could have at least put on a shirt and Avril please take off anything that says you're a Canadian. Girl you don't have any class and we don't want you to advertize that you were even born here. The whole affair has become another crock and is putting a bad light on any kind of music that they produce.

I agree with Night. I wish Avril Lavigne would just go away. I'm so sick of looking at her annoying looking face.

Actually I loved most of the fashions. Is it because I'm 41 years old? The worst I could say about a couple of them is that they were boring. C'mon, this is an awards show for MUSICIANS, not a casting call for Billy Joel's next wife. I would be disappointed if I DIDN'T see car seat straps and pleather bustiers.

Ha ha Girlicious is just pathetic. Seriously.

How can Avril speak her mind? She doesn't have one nor does she have any fashion sense. There's a time and a place for everything and I think she just disgraced our flag. It does not do it justice to be patched on the back of a kids outfit that is long overdue for the rag bag. Just like she is. It's time she grew up and got rid of all the goop on her eyes so she can at least see how bad she looks and maybe clean out her ears so she can hear that she gets worse each year. Grow up girl and act like a performer not another US nut case trying to look the worst she possibly can.

Oh Hey Wow! I agree with Eggineer. For Pete's sake, it's great to slop around the house in the crap the younger people wear these days, but come on! Where's the sense of class! Used to be you could look like a frump at home, but when you went out, you were a different person. With some of the clothes these people are wearing, I wouldn't be caught dead with them. They are not the role models I would even think of being with on a bad day. Dress Up People. Try once in awhile to look at least a little classy. Or is it just that the singers now adays don't care about any kind of class. Man if I made the money that half of them made, I'd be looking for clothes that suit me and make me look good all the time. Home is one thing, out in the real world it's another thing. Try to make at least some kind of impression. None of these outfits make it for me that's for sure, and until they do, I'll continue to just read the reviews instead of watching a show that makes me want to throw up.

Maybe Paris will get more cudos if she makes another home movie. Then it won't matter what she wears. :-)

149. Bree -
Pam looks good. Trisha looks scary skinny.

150. Phyl's Diner -
The pumpkin dress it awful. But worse, she needs to gain some weight. Normal people don't look like that and models shouldn't either.

And Luna, learn to type using proper spellings ( we aren't your text buddies) and use punctuation and Captitals.

What a shame 3 of the worst dressers are CANADIANS, shame on tou.

152. Shwaman -
When one keeps the bigger picture in mind. What the stars wear matters very little.

153. daddychris25 -
you think these people dress poorly, what about the editor/author of the article, notice how, although they make a comment about all these people, there is not one picture of their ensemble, makes me go hmmmmmmmm.

154. j.b269 -
This is to confirm that they all looked pretty bad. But who really cares. If the way they are dressed is your biggest concern, well then I wish I had your life.

And I must comment on Luna's post. If you posted your response from your cell phone then I can understand why you wrote the way that you did.But more than likely you wrote your response from a computer.

You have a full keyboard, USE IT!

My god, no wonder our society is going into the crapper. Luna, it frightens me that you are too bloody lazy to type out a word. The reality is that you are too ignorant to realize that the butchering of the English language that you did makes you appear like a moron.

I need to know, Luna, are you from Oshawa?

In that orange dress she looks pathetic...she's just a bone...really terrifying!!!!!!!!!!

I don't exactly think that jay's outfit is hidious.from expierence to watching America's/ Canada's next top model, I think that's just his style.

157. teckno -
Totally agree with all ... Faux-Punk gotta go, she's not 14 yo anymore ... Jay Manuel got to stop with sniffing the bleach too ...

158. Karen -
Did these people check themselves out in the mirror? I don't call this glam? What were they thinking?

159. Hails.Lyrics -
I like Jay's outfit!!!
