The Stills Grab The Early Juno Lead With Two Awards
As the country prepares for Sunday's broadcast of the 2009 Juno Awards, Montreal's The Stills are already celebrating. The Indie-rockers picked up two Junos from Saturday night's pre-awards ceremony, where trophies in the first 32 categories were handed out. The band won New Group of The Year and Alternative Album Of the Year for their 2008 release Oceans Will Rise.
Other big winners on night one include Divine Brown for R&B / Soul Recording of the Year, Serena Ryder for Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Sam Roberts for Rock Album Of The Year. In what some are considering a surprise win, Kardinal Offishall beat out five-time nominee Nickelback for Single of the Year with his track "Dangerous."
Buzz duo Beast kicked on the gala dinner in style, while additional performances from The Trews, Elise Estrada, Nikki Yanofsky, Steve Dawson and The Gryphon Trio helped showcase some great Canadian talent throughout the evening.
