Waiting On The Song To Change

Posted Sun Jul 29, 2007 4:42pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

So it's been almost four days since the last episode of So You Think You Can Dance aired, and I STILL can't get that damn John Mayer song out of my frickin' skull.

See, as the competition gets stiffer, the 10 remaining contestants are now being judged individually, not just as couples. So to be perfectly fair and equal, when it came time for the finalists to do their solos this week, all 10 of them performed the same Wade Robson-choreographed routine to John Mayer's "Waiting On The World To Change." Specifically, the same 45-second snippet of "Waiting On The World To Change." All dressed in the same peace-symbol-adorned costume. All dancing the same exact steps. TEN TIMES.

This is why the TiVo fast-forward button was invented. Also why the MUTE function was invented, come to think of it. Seriously, I never really dug that song before, but now that I've been subjected to it in a constant loop, it's reached a new level of unbearability for me, somewhere between the "Macarena" and I dunno...being tortured at Gitmo, maybe?

OK, perhaps that's a bit extreme, but I would honestly rather hear Mary Murphy's hot-tamale madwoman cackle through a bullhorn shoved straight up against my ear than listen to "Waiting On The World To Change" ever again in my lifetime. To borrow a phrase from Chris on another Fox show, Family Guy: That's enough, John Mayer.

So You Think You Can Dance producers, please don't ever do this again.
