Idol Update: Wild-Policy To Be Reinstated?

Posted Fri Mar 21, 2008 1:17pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Fans of five to-be-determined ousted Idol contestants can rejoice! Because if rumors are true, the long-demanded "Wild Card" policy will soon be reinstated. Huzzah!

Yes, the last-gasp policy that once rescued Clay Aiken from premature obscurity may now save another gone-too-soon singer. See, according to rampant messageboard postings across this great Interweb of ours, five semi-finalists who failed to make the top 10 will return to the American Idol stage for the April 9th Idol Gives Back charity special....on which they will battle for a wild-card slot on this summer's American Idol concert tour!

Omigod omigod omigod omigod omigod...

Now, keep in mind that this hypothetical wild-card winner WON'T get to compete on the actual show again, which is a bit of bummer. But I'm sure Danimals like myself (and Danny Noriega's BFF, Ramiele Malubay), or fans of any of the other eliminated contestants, would still relish the opportunity to see their favorite reject hit the road with the remaining top 10.

Rumor has it that the two contestants who came closest to make the top 10, Amanda Overmyer and David Hernandez, are already guaranteed a spot in this wild-card competition. And obviously, Danny should be one of the othersĀ (hey, I never claimed I wasn't biased!)...as long as he can get out of his commitment to perform on Rosie O'Donnell's cruise ship, that is.

But who should the other two wild-card contenders be? Babe-a-licious but boring Luke Menard? Britney impersonator Kady Malloy? Sassy soul divas Alexandrea Lushington and Asia'h Epperson? WHO???

And perhaps the most important question of all is...can Josiah Leming be a write-in candidate? PLEASE???

Post your pick for best wild-card candidates below, people!

The stripper! Yes, yes, yes!

The rumor is instead of 10 people on the tour, there will 11! So one person already voted off will be asked to come back. Five people will compete for that 11th spot. Amanda and David H are 2 of the people competing, but the other 3 are TBA. I really hope Danny and Asia'h are in the competition for spot #11!

LOVE that photo of Danny as a wild card.It made me laugh!

7. Yahoo! Music User -
There definately needs to be a write-in campaign to bring Josiah back! They also need to let him perform one of his original songs.

8. Yahoo! Music User -
I so hope this rumor is true. I read it here too:

DAVID HERNANDEZ, PLEASE?!

11. Joe T -
Hmmmm. Very interesting. I guess will all depend on who you want to see if you go see the idols perform. I would guess David H and Amanda will for sure get a chance. Then I would have to guess maybe Danny N. He would at least be funny to have on the TV show again. Then maybe Ms. Epperson. I am not sure who the 5th candidate would be. If I had to choose I would say David H has the best chance. But with America you just never know.

Cheers!!

I agree with you Joe T (AKA #11). "If I had to choose I would say David H has the best chance. But with America you just never know."

If it can't be Josiah Leming, then Danny Noregia.

Gosh darn it! I wish they had thought of it sooner and just called it the Top 12 Tour. Obviously then for moi, it'd be Amanda Overmyer and David Hernandez.

17. Yahoo! Music User -
I agree with #17 and wish it was a Top 12 Tour. Boo-hoo. But maybe Amanda Overmyer and/or David Hernandez will get a spot.

Huzzah! is right LP. G-d Bless ya' girl for keeping us updated on all things Idol. What is this, 9 blogs in less than 72 hours? We appreciate your hardwork and keeping us up to speed. ;)

When he was eliminated, I wrote:
"The stripper. No! No! No!"

Now when given this option, I write:
"The stripper. Yes! Yes! Yes!"

Mr. Hernandez please?

20. Yahoo! Music User -
I'd say AMANDA OVERMEYER because she'd be very different and fun to watch (even if she continues to mumble). Also, as #12. Yahoo! Music User said, people should check out her exit interviews (it has been posted and properly sourced by #s 1035, 1036 and 1037 on excellent the blog LP wrote about her elimination). She may not have been the best vocalist, but she sure gives the best exit interview. She does not censor herself like most exit interviewees. For example, she admits she never really liked the show. It is very very funny!
