Aiken Vs. Lambert: Adam Strikes Back

Posted Thu May 28, 2009 4:33pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Last week, season 2 American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken published a characteristically "colorful" anti-Idol rant in the subscription-only section of his official website, describing fellow Idol second-placer Adam Lambert's singing as "contrived, awful, and slightly frightening!" He wrote this despite only having watched one of Adam's American Idol performances, the polarizing Egyptian-ish "Ring Of Fire" rendition Adam sang on Country Night. Clay also asserted that America got it right when Kris Allen won the Idol title, even though he admitted that he'd never watched any of Kris's performances all season.

Anyway, the Interweb unsurprisingly exploded at the very prospect of two of the most flamboyant and controversial Idols of all time becoming embroiled in some sort of Oasis/Blur, Fiddy/Kanye, Killers/Fall Out Boy, Radiohead/Miley-style feud. How exciting! But then all the catfighting seemed to die down when Clay quickly back-pedaled the next day and offered a somewhat half-hearted apology to Adam, posting this follow-up:

"I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard. Any performer hopes that their music will appeal to all people, but no singer realistically expects it to...The only person I would really dream of apologizing to is Adam. And the irony is, if he's smart he couldn't give a crap what I think. I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me. I imagine he doesn't give a damn!"

Well, Clay's right about one thing: Adam doesn't seem to care about what Clay thinks of him or his singing.

Speaking to Access Hollywood this morning, Adam smilingly shrugged off Clay's recent blogs with a flippant: "I don't know Clay. I'm glad he's getting headlines now, though, because he wasn't before. If he wants to ride my coattails about it, good for him."

Oh, snap!

So forget about any sort of Kris Allen vs. Adam Lambert rematch. The waaaaay more fun feud may be between...the Glamberts and the Claymates. Woot! This is one battle I'd watch on pay-per-view.

[snap!]... take that Clay... Adam seems like a normally nice guy but I'm glad he said that about Clay... serves him right for being so rude. He could have just said he didn't like Adam and move along but he had to get stupid and say something that wasn't even called for. So I'm glad Adam "told him off" ha.

Seriously, I am not a Lambert junkie, but that guy sure can give a snappy comeback, right?! Clay has got nothing on Adam in this one. :)

I enjoy listening to Clay, but he can't compare to Adam when it comes to talent or originality. In short, Adam brings excitement to the stage. Can't say the same about Clay or this year's other Idol contestants for that matter.

There's nothing original about Adam. Ugh.

Having said that, Adam is hilarious. Battle of the Queens is ON.

Is yahoo honestly still paying this woman to do idol blogs when its over? It was bad enough in season when she was drooling all over adam like a little puppy dog. I hope this is volunteer writing or else yahoo is getting ripped off. P.S. I don't think either of these guys will sell many records. Nobody has listened to 80's hair rock since the 80's for a reason, and there are a million Kris Allen's out there.

Good one for Adam! I am a Kris fan but I swear I am so impressed with how Adam has carried himself throughout the competition and how he has stood with Kris on the "textgate" stuff. So watch out Clay! Adam has all of his fans AND Kris' fans behind him! LOL! Seriously though...I WILL buy both Kris' AND Adam's albums. Awesome!!!

Great comeback Adam!

It seems to me that Clay doesn't have much respect for anything anymore; music, artists themselves, and apparently himself. I was a diehard Clay fan for a long time; but now, not so much. He's not so good that he couldn't use a little humbleness. It makes me sad to see such rude and disrespectful behavior towards another artist. Very sad.

It's been obvious all along that Adam Lambert, besides being ultra talented, has A LOT of class.

SMBARBER...I totally agree. First let me say I can't stand Clay or Adam...I really wasn't a fan of idol at all this year. Maybe the show is washed up...Whatever, I can't stand reading the blogs when they are so completely one sided. Yes Adam was a great performer, however, there is only so much screaming and screeching one can hear in a one hour tv show. I think the comment by Adam is only the beginning. You will see his true colors here soon. The nice guy image was only to try and win AI.....At least it was genuine with Kris....

Clay is just jealous cause Adam has great makeup tips. Clay can't pull off the black hair and guyliner near as well as Adam. Clay can't hit those beautiful high notes and sing creative songs. Clay's music is geared towards the old folks in the nursing homes where Adam's music is geared towards everyone with a heartbeat!

GOD KNOWS how I love you Adam. LMAO @ Clay.

Lambert says he got carried away, but not sorry
