Allison Cut: American Idol Now A Boys' Club

Posted Wed May 6, 2009 7:46pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Last night on American Idol, Simon Cowell predicted that Allison Iraheta's smokin' "Slow Ride" duet with Adam Lambert would save her in this competition. Usually, Simon is right. But sadly, this time he got it wrong.

Yes, Allison was axed tonight, ironically during Rock 'N' Roll Week, which should have been her strongest week yet. Since I'm an Allison fan who until this evening was still dreaming of an Adam/Allison finale in just two weeks' time, this news, of course, did not rock my world.

Tonight's Rock 'N' Roll results show actually kicked off quite rockingly, with perhaps the only group singalong number that I didn't find unbearably cruise-shippy this entire season, because a) it featured Slash!!!!; b) it featured an Alice Cooper song!!!!; and c) it offered some more Adam-on-Allison duet action!!!! (in the G-rated sense, of course).

But then, when my predicted eliminated contestant, Kris Allen, was the first to be sent to safety by Ryan Seacrest (the look on his face indicated that he was as shocked as I was), my heart sank for the little redheaded girl.

And then, when Adam made it through, I was filled with mixed emotions: I was absolutely elated, naturally, that there'd be no near-elimination scare for Adam like there was last week, but fearful that it was just down to Allison and Danny Gokey in the bottom two.

Danny of course deserved to go home based on last night's laughably shrieky mangling of a perfectly good Aerosmith song and his narcolepsy-inducingly boring Styx duet with Kris. But since he'd never been in the bottom before, while Allison had landed there more times than anyone in the remaining final four, it didn't look so good for her. Still, I clung to my rock 'n' roll fantasy that she would once again be safe.

Well, after 64 million votes--the highest vote tally outside of an Idol finale--Allison was cut, despite her solid "Crybaby" performance last night. I guess 64 million people CAN be wrong. And I was the one who was the crybaby upon learning these results. I will truly miss her girl power in this competition. American Idol is now officially a boys' club, as this is the first season in which the final three have all been male. Boo!

I honestly don't know why the Idol audience never really connected with Allison. She had the vocal chops, that was undeniable. And being the only teenager in the top 10, she should have had the tween demographic all sewn up. Just being the sole female in the top four should have been enough to give her some edge over Danny and Kris. She was the only person of color in the final four, too. That should have helped as well, but it did not.

So what was it? Was it her Manic-Panic'd hair? Because her tresses looked better than ever last night, thanks to her sleek new extensions. Was it her shy demeanor? Because she sure wasn't shy when she sassed back to Simon last night. I just don't know. All I know is, America got it wrong here. I truly believe that.

I only hope that Allison follows in the platinum-plated footsteps of fellow fourth-placer Chris Daughtry. Daughtry, one of the most successful AmIdol alums ever, performed his new single "No Surprise" on tonight's results show, and he proved once again that sometimes when a contestant comes in fourth, that contestant actually wins.

So I am rooting that Allison has a Daughtry-esque career path ahead of her, because she's still a winner in my book.

I almost cried last night! What is wrong with America?! Allison should still be there! DG should have been packin' his boring a$$ bags! Seriously! All I have to say is I can't wait for the Allison album. I'll be one of the first in line to buy it! Keep on rockin' it girl!

I'm sad that Allison left. I thought Danny may actually go, which would have been interesting. I like him ok, but what kind of music will he make? I just don't get him. If he sticks to gospel then ok, but otherwise?

I was really upset that Kris was safe. He has NO wow factor to him at all!! His personality is very bland and I think Simon was right when he said listening to him was like eating ice for lunch. So true! I still love Danny only because he is a genuinely good person with a great personality and a wonderful voice. He messed up ONCE, and he knew that! It wasn't like he sucks all the time! Cut him some slack, people. Adam totally impressed me so I knew he was sticking around, although I voted for him anyway so another Chris Daughtry upset didn't happen. Kris should be going next week. I blame all of his votes on stupid little teenie boppers who this he is hot and their hormones are getting in the way of clear thinking.

That freak show Adam should be gone. Saw those pics of him making out with guys and I'm telling you what, that is some of the grossest **it I've seen. That dude is flamin'. This is what America is so hypnotized by??? This freakshow????

#147 You MUST enjoy those pics....why are you looking anyway? Get a life. Just two words...Elton John.

My son is a drummer in 2 bands that he started. One is heavy metal and the other blues rock. His knowledge and love of music, especially hard/classic rock, is second to none. He has a very wide range of music he listens to. He watched the show this week because it was rock based. He thought Adam was horrible and that he bascially butchered a classic song. He really wasn't impressed with any of them.
I would like to say that I am in my 40's and like Kris because he is an artist/muscian who does well at whatever is thrown at him. I think he puts his signature on each genre. I think his performances are actual artistic endeavors. I have spoken to many people whi watch Idol. Some like Adam, but the cd they would buy is Kris's. I find that telling. I was a Danny fan, but I have come around to Kris because he has the whole package going for him with the musicianship and vocals. Very enjoyable.
I did vote for Kris many times. I think that many Matt fans probably voted for him also because he is a singer/musician also. I really hope Kris wins!!! Go darkhorse go!!!

I'm glad Kris stayed, but wish Gokey would have went...He should have went. Allison will be soooo missed the next 3 weeks. Yea.. I liked Adam's performance but... seriously. women getting all hot and bothered by him is so sad. His comment last night was so funny. He loved his outfit? Yea.. that's a "real" rocker for ya.

Seeing the pics doesn't mean you like looking at them. I would think that with any of the contestants, if there were pictures of them on the internet sticking their tongue down someone's throat (regardless of their sex) people will look at them out of curiosity. But cum on, he's a freakin' freak show in those pics and I busted out laughing, thinking to myself, how could people in America be so ignorant to be fooled by this poser, actor, superstar wanna be. I guess you won't truly understand until after the show is all over with and he has no one to stage his "spectacular performances".

Elton John is a freakin freak show too. We all better watch out or Adam will snarl at us and stick his tongue out. Then he will shoot lasers out of his painted fingernails and electricity will shoot out of the top of his head and strike us all down if we do not bow down to the ultimate rock god-Adam Lambert.

Iam so pissed with this elimination! What a rip off! Allison killed it, every performance was great! What is America thinking?? What we have here is another Daughtry, hopefully she will be just as sucssesful as he. Kris or Danny should of been the ones to go! Danny suked on Rock night, that screaming was just horrible! Allison is going to blow up, big time.... I will, w/o hesitation buy her album, her voice is so unique, cant wait for her cd to come out.

ps, i tried voting and could not get through! Wtf?? Its all rigged....GO ALLISON!!! YOU ROCK!!!

Does anyone else think that we should vote for the person to be sent home instead of the person/people to stay? We wouldn't have to worry about splitting votes.

152. Katie R -
Danny should have went home after Tuesday's performance no doubt. But I'm not a fan of Allison either -- never was. And I'm sorry, Lindsay, but you basically saying people should have voted for her because she's a girl and a 'person of color' is completely ridiculous. Newsflash: Just because you love her voice doesn't mean the rest of the world is 'wrong' because they don't, and I certainly won't ever vote for anybody because of their gender or race, especially when it's a singing competition.

153. Vicki -
Adam & Allison fan here! Adams only real competition was Allison! Would have LOVED to see those two pair up at the end and I think it would have been a really close race! Now it's boring! :( As far as the 'pictures' go, what exactly does ones sexuality have to do with their singing ability? hmmmm...I wonder if you'd be complaining if it were two sexy WOMEN kissing?! Then you'd be all for it, right??? Ridiculous!
Good Luck Allison! You will be missed!!!
GO ADAM!!!!!

154. Jackie -
I'm just annoyed at how Adam acted like "no surprise" when he was sent back to safety. I admit, I think he has talent, but he's way out there and the producers needed a long time ago to tone in down a bit. I for one have been a fan of Kris' for a few weeks now, but I can see what a tough choice the voters of AI have been in when they compare Kris to Adam. Like I said, Adam does have talent, I just don't think he should win.

155. CuriousGal -
#151 check your post. You used the word "cum". Hmmmm subliminal.....Better check out what is causing this hate...

#149...Your son is a drummer and a rock genius who doesn't like Adam, well what is your son's name I mean he must be famous if he is that much of a genius and such a great drummer, shouldn't he?? Adam is the best on Idol and Kris??? Are you serious Kriss is the dullest contestant left, he has limited vocals and is not that interesting the only reason he is still around is because of the pre-tweens who doesn't know any better keep voting for him....ADAM all the way!!!!

157. Jeff -
Lindsay and others, Are you guys watching the same Idol as me? Allison was simply outclassed by all 3 guys.

Also, Lindsay, you've become such a Allison/Adam fanboy (fangirl?), it's annoying and becoming unbearable. A few more weeks of this crap, and I will stop reading.

I am so sick that Kris was not cut last night, he can't sing as he proved when he sang that Beatles song, he doesn't want to be there.. and Alison totally rocked. America got it totally wrong, or I should say Kris is getting the teeny bopper vote just because these pre-pubescent girls think he is cute. ick!

159. deedlebug8402 -
Ugh, I am right there with you! When they said Kris was safe, my stomach totally dropped...and I admit, I got choked up when they said Danny was safe (darn that Danny!). Like you, I really hope she has a Daughtry-esque career path ahead of her...she deserves it!! :o)

160. Xenia -
im not happy that she went home she was my fav...now im goin for chris allen...LUV him

AP

AP - Adam Lambert admits he got carried away with his sexually charged American Music Awards performance, but he's offering no apology. The glam rocker from "American Idol" said on "The Early Show" t… More »
