Allison Cut: American Idol Now A Boys' Club

Posted Wed May 6, 2009 7:46pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Last night on American Idol, Simon Cowell predicted that Allison Iraheta's smokin' "Slow Ride" duet with Adam Lambert would save her in this competition. Usually, Simon is right. But sadly, this time he got it wrong.

Yes, Allison was axed tonight, ironically during Rock 'N' Roll Week, which should have been her strongest week yet. Since I'm an Allison fan who until this evening was still dreaming of an Adam/Allison finale in just two weeks' time, this news, of course, did not rock my world.

Tonight's Rock 'N' Roll results show actually kicked off quite rockingly, with perhaps the only group singalong number that I didn't find unbearably cruise-shippy this entire season, because a) it featured Slash!!!!; b) it featured an Alice Cooper song!!!!; and c) it offered some more Adam-on-Allison duet action!!!! (in the G-rated sense, of course).

But then, when my predicted eliminated contestant, Kris Allen, was the first to be sent to safety by Ryan Seacrest (the look on his face indicated that he was as shocked as I was), my heart sank for the little redheaded girl.

And then, when Adam made it through, I was filled with mixed emotions: I was absolutely elated, naturally, that there'd be no near-elimination scare for Adam like there was last week, but fearful that it was just down to Allison and Danny Gokey in the bottom two.

Danny of course deserved to go home based on last night's laughably shrieky mangling of a perfectly good Aerosmith song and his narcolepsy-inducingly boring Styx duet with Kris. But since he'd never been in the bottom before, while Allison had landed there more times than anyone in the remaining final four, it didn't look so good for her. Still, I clung to my rock 'n' roll fantasy that she would once again be safe.

Well, after 64 million votes--the highest vote tally outside of an Idol finale--Allison was cut, despite her solid "Crybaby" performance last night. I guess 64 million people CAN be wrong. And I was the one who was the crybaby upon learning these results. I will truly miss her girl power in this competition. American Idol is now officially a boys' club, as this is the first season in which the final three have all been male. Boo!

I honestly don't know why the Idol audience never really connected with Allison. She had the vocal chops, that was undeniable. And being the only teenager in the top 10, she should have had the tween demographic all sewn up. Just being the sole female in the top four should have been enough to give her some edge over Danny and Kris. She was the only person of color in the final four, too. That should have helped as well, but it did not.

So what was it? Was it her Manic-Panic'd hair? Because her tresses looked better than ever last night, thanks to her sleek new extensions. Was it her shy demeanor? Because she sure wasn't shy when she sassed back to Simon last night. I just don't know. All I know is, America got it wrong here. I truly believe that.

I only hope that Allison follows in the platinum-plated footsteps of fellow fourth-placer Chris Daughtry. Daughtry, one of the most successful AmIdol alums ever, performed his new single "No Surprise" on tonight's results show, and he proved once again that sometimes when a contestant comes in fourth, that contestant actually wins.

So I am rooting that Allison has a Daughtry-esque career path ahead of her, because she's still a winner in my book.

Adam and Allison were the only reason I watch AI. Recount is right!!!!!!!!!!! Adam without doubt deserves to win. He is the most incredible entertainer I've seen in years. Please continue to vote for him. If Hockey Gokey wins or the worst ever Kris (who sings out of the side of his mouth like some stupid popeye lookalike) I will boycott all advertisers of the show (Coke, Ford are you reading)
and will never spend a cent buying idol music in the future. Are you reading this Mr. Cowell?

Among the judges it is only Simon who is not afraid to say it as he sees it. The others cater to Gokey & Kris giving the excuse that they are good singers anyway when they falter and America goes with them. And with those fools voting for the worst to spite AI, Adam will go next week, leaving the WORST TWO for the FINALE. That is unless AI put their put down and fight those trying to bring AI down.

You rock Carrie K!

man that's terrible. gokey should have left. he killed that last note on "dream on" and allison was waaaaaaaaay better then him.

# 64 Are you kidding? You will boycott American Idol advertisers on the show, because America votes differently than you? Hey I think our current President stinks, but that's the way America voted, and I deal with it. Idols advertisers are better off without such a shallow minded persons business. Yeah, I'm sure they care what you think! LMAO

I am done with American Idol. I have no interest in watching the rest of this season now that Allison is gone. Horrible decision....I do look forward to a duet with her and Adam somewhere done the line, they were amazing together. I agree with someone else's comment - the look on Simon's face at the end - he did not look happy! Huge Bummer!

This eveninbg was, with out a doubt, the lowest point for this show EVER! The vocal talent and amazing stage presence of this, just turned, 17 year girl is way beyond even that of the over theatrical, broadway singing, Adam. America totally got this wrong and I, for one, WILL NOT be watching the rest of the season! I could care less who wins at this point.

I seriously cried when Allison was singing tonight. I already knew before watching that she was going to get the boot because I kinda cheat and look at AP before I tune in. I was so mad when Kris was the first to be safe - and the untalented prick actually gave CHRIS DAUGHTRY his plaque! I would've been offended if I were CD.
I'm so happy to see so many people say America got it wrong.
But, here's a little silver lining for you all - when she starts recording, she gets to do HER OWN stuff! She won't be forced to do commerical crap like all the other winners have to do. CD should be thankful that he was eliminated; he made an amazing album that probably would've never existed had he actually won.
I'm going to miss her. =[
And I seriously doubt that I will be watching the rest of the season if they have to keep the likes of Kris and Danny in the top 3. Disgusting...

This is what is wrong with America these days. If it doesn't go your way we quit. We have turned into a bunch of cry babies. America votes people, not Idol, not Ford, not even the Judges. Americans like yourselves. Get a grip and grow up!

Seriously Danny and Kris????? I don't get Danny's charm and he was a disaster he can't be the next American Idol that was by far the worst performance in idol history. I'm rooting for Adam now because he's been very nice to Allison. But I won't watch next week just the finale because Allison will perform there.

Nothing is more shocking than having Allison leave tonight and Danny staying after his godawful screech! No more Idol for me!

What a joke. Allison out? You have got to be kidding me. This show has no credibility. After last weeks debacle and now this week. Booooo American Idol. Allison will be a major star and you will never hear of Kris and Danny after this season.

AMERICA DID GET IT WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like they did with Chris Daughtry. I was feeling good when Kris & Adam were safe, thinking that HOKEY GOKEY was leaving tonight. has anyone noticed how smug & arrogant Danny seems to have been the past few weeks. I think ever since the judges had saved Matt and 2 wks later Matt was sent home. did anyone see Simon's face after Ryan brought Allison back up to the stage after she finished singing. it looked like he was PO'd that Allison was going home instead of Danny. I would have loved to have seen a finale of either Adam/Allison or for my 2nd choice Adam/Kris. Adam & Allison's duet ROCKED THE HOUSE last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best to Allison on her journey to a very successful music career after her time with Am Idol is over.

allison cry-baby gone home :( sad day for all you americans

while i hate danny and thinks he shud've gone home when he sang "Hero" during the top 36 round (c'mon Hero??? just cos of ur emotional status?), i dont see the point in comparing him and kris.

kris is original and though he may not have the bic voice like Danny or the stage presence as Adam, he is an all-rounder. and he's not annoying like Danny with this big ego and like someone said, i think the whole AI season is set up cos every blog i visit, there r loads of comments against danny every week. if danny wins this year, no more AI for me!

kris and adam in the final and KRIS WINNING! YIPPEEE

I AM MAD AS HELL. I have been an AI fan since day one and I was hoping for an Adam & Allison finally. I thought that Danny was a little better than Kris in their duet. I thought that Kris was pitchie in both his performances and should have gone home. I don't think that Danny was much better last night either, but come on America what the hell is wrong with you people. Oh I know, all you little teennie boppers out there just think that Kris and Danny are so dreamie, you all make me sick! THIS A SINGING COMPACTION OPEN YOUR EARS.

Allison and Adam were brilliant together. The brotherly love thing was adorable. You can tell they genuinly care for each other. I feel like I connected with these two contestants because they are both authentic. Kris and Danny seem like they act out the emotion of their songs while Allison and Adam just give themselves to the song and don't think about it. I was standing and I actually had to fall into a crouch hand over mouth with my eyes wide when they axed her. *tears*

thank U america... U saved my danny :) than they will be adam and danny in finalee... even though i couldn't see it until tonight in indonesia but i'm so glad my danny is save
