Idol Tragedy: Jennifer Hudson's Mother & Brother Found Dead

Posted Fri Oct 24, 2008 4:43pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

I've had many chances to write about Jennifer Hudson in the past, usually about lighter things like Photoshop scandals, metallic bolero jackets, and engagements to reality TV stars.

But I'm very sad that I have to write about her today.

Various media outlets are reporting that Jennifer Hudson's brother, Jason Hudson, and mother, Darnell Donerson, were found dead by shotgun blast in Jennifer's mother's Chicago home earlier today. The bodies--Darnell's in the living room, Jason's in the bathroom--were discovered by Jennifer's cousin at 2:44pm Friday afternoon.

Additional details of this tragedy are still coming in, but this is what else I've learned so far:

The Chicago Police Department has confirmed two people were found shot to death at the residence and that this case is "being investigated as a homicide." Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute. There was no sign of forced entry at the scene.

Other media outlets are reporting that Darnell's 7-year-old grandson, Julian King, was taken from the scene and that an Amber Alert has been issued for him. Police are on the lookout for either a teal/green Chrysler Concord with a temporary license plate or a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban, and believe the boy may have been abducted by the suspect in this tragic double murder.

Last year, Jennifer (whose father died when she was a child) spoke about her close relationship with her family, telling Vogue magazine: "My faith in God and my family, they're very realistic and very normal, they're not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that's just another place that's home...when I go home to my mom I'm just Jennifer, [so she says], 'You get up and you take care of your own stuff.' And I love that."

Now Jennifer will never able to really go home in the same way ever again.

My heart goes on to the entire Hudson family at this tragic time. Please feel free share your own condolences message board below.

This is just terrible! It's really sick that someone would do this and that we live in this type of world that people think it's ok to take another persons life.

This is completely dispicable. Whoever shot these two innocent souls may die in vain...
