Bach Bottles Up 'Gone Country' Victory
That Sebastian Bach sure gets around. Since leaving Skid Row, he's tried his hand at indie-rock (the mid-'90s alternative band Last Hard Men with the Breeders' Kelley Deal, Smashing Pumpkins' Jimmy Chamberlin, and the Frogs' Jimmy Flemion...yes, this actually happened); at musical theater (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Show); at scripted television (Gilmore Girls)...and of course, like fellow '80s metalheads Tommy Lee/Ozzy Osbourne/Bret Michaels/Dee Snider, at UNscripted television too.
Yes, it was only a matter of time before a larger-than-life character like Sebastian started making the reality-TV rounds. And since becoming a fixture in the Celebreality world, he's continued to showcase his many varied talents, which apparently include beatboxing (Celebrity Rap Superstars), drunkenly annoying Ted Nugent (Supergroup), drunkenly annoying his wife (I Married Sebastian Bach), and, as evidenced on the recently wrapped second season of CMT's Gone Country, impressing Big & Rich's main MuzikMafioso, John Rich.
A little background here: On the first season of Gone Country, a reality show on which sundry D-listers attempt to launch country music careers, John Rich declared Latin-lover heartthrob Julio Iglesias Jr. the ultimate winner. This controversial and frankly baffling decision did not sit very well with many country purists, and Julio's sole Rich-produced single, "The Way I Love You," subsequently tanked at country radio. So this time John seemingly decided to make a more educated decision: Not only did he enlist the assistance of various Nashville movers, shakers, and tastemakers to help select a Gone Country 2 winner, but he clearly picked a contestant with a lengthy and well-rounded résumé.
So on the recent Gone Country 2 finale, Sebastian--whose autobiographical alcoholism ballad, "Battle With The Bottle," sounded much more country than Julio's season 1 lite-radio love song--beat out worthy opponents like Jermaine Jackson, American Idol's Mikalah Gordon, *NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick, and, um, Sean Young and Lorenzo Lamas for the grand prize: a chance to record country music with John.
Only time will tell if this victory marks the beginning of a legit new phase in Sebastian's career, or if it's just another one of his entertainingly opportunistic PR stunts (Bach did try to record some rap-rock after appearing on Celebrity Rap Superstars, after all). But Sebastian's song does actually sound authentically country, in an old-school, cry-in-yer-beer sort of way. So that's promising. Maybe Bach can really "go country" after all. (At least until season 2 of VH1's Supergroup starts shooting, that is.)
Anyway, check out Sebastian's first country video (plus get the download), and decide for yourself if the Savage Animal has what it takes to make it in Nashville:

However my living in Music City U.S.A. (NASVILLE)....I hope it work's for him....I wouldn't mind running into him all the time here!!!
I do not think Sebastian should consider country to be his career music. So that means he need not do a country album. I would love to hear this song as a ballad on a upcoming album as a add on song. Sebastian should stick to the rock. Heck he should get a great new band together.
And a note to (whowasabducted) Skid Row is still around. Sebastian isn't with them now. That is possibly why they are just a band for hire now. Snake Sabo still rocks. Yeah saw him at NAMM.
i will buy it because thats what true die hard fans do : )
