Canadian Idol:The Not So Perfect 10

Posted Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:23pm PDT by Jordan Gracey in Reality Bites

When you’ve been training to lead the race, it can be near impossible to run with the pack.

The top 10 kicked off tonight’s elimination episode with a Bowie medley.  The result; a well-organized mess.  The idol hopefuls have been working extremely hard at evolving who they are as solo performers, what they haven’t spent as much time on, is learning how to work with their fellow hopefuls.

Were it not for last night’s shining stars (Mitch, Sebastian, Theo, and to some extent Katherine), to carry this medley tonight, it would have turned into a real mess.  When you put the Idol’s together, it’s fairly obvious who the odd ones out are and fortunately it seems like the voters are starting to catch on.  In the words of Zack Werner, “you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.”

Hamilton, ON won’t be home to another Canadian Idol.  Adam Castelli, who says that Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire” is the song that best describes him, was sent home this evening.  As much as I feel for Adam, I can’t say that I’m surprised… or disappointed.  I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Star Quality”.  It pertains to the natural appeal that someone (a musician) has and exudes.  Adam just doesn’t have it.  Sorry bro.

While Adam may have been voted off, joining him in the bottom three were Mookie and Sebastian.  As you can probably assume from prior entries, I’m counting the days until Mookie is sent home.  You can also probably assume that I was not so thrilled when Ben Mulroney announced that Sebastian was also at risk!  Needless to say, I was baffled and disappointed, almost as much as last week!  I will state now, that I don’t think Sebastian is the best of the hopefuls.  I do however believe and stand by my opinion that he is easily in the Top 3, NOT bottom!

I leave you now with the latest video from Brian Melo, the current Canadian Idol, who hails from Hamilton ON.

You know what, I think I am just Idoled Out.
I just don't care about this season at all , haven't watched one single episode. I wonder
how the ratings are this season?

I think Mark needs to go home. I can't stand that guy. He's soooo full of himself. But I like Mookie. He's just chill. Though I definitely think it was time for Adam to leave. I think that Sebastian is pretty cool too and that Earl is my favorite just because he makes me laugh when I watch him. He is such the stoner.

Interesting points-of-view. At least you think for yourself. Sebastian has star quality but is not the best singer (too bad, I love him too). For me, it looks like Theo or Katherine as the winner. Depends on who rises to the top and performs.

I would have never let Omar go but I'd love it if Earl would win it this year. Out of all of them, his is only album I'd buy for sure.

This is not news, it belongs in entertainment section..Featured news should not be type of crap. And what about the slimy vigin records ad that blocks every one from seeing the start of the story for about 30 seconds?

good luck, mulroonie needs to go , then i might watch the show again but with him as mc still i just wanna vomit if i have to watch anything to do with him

I love Mark Day and I have and will vote for him. He is the one person on the show that will laugh at himself while I laugh at some of the others. lol. I like the guy with the piano also (forgot his name). I am a constant Idol fan and love the show except for Zack. Why does he wear eye shadow? Is he gay? I think he stinks!!! I do, however like the other judges albeit if they don't know what they want to say sometimes. Wish they would leave Mark alone with their rotten remarks. Again, I love Mark Day and will vote for him. See you next week. I hate Mookie; he jumps around and gets on my nerves but he CAN'T SING. HE ABSOLUTELY HAS NO VOICE. I love Katherine too.

I was distraught when they said Adam Castelli had to go home; he may not have had the BEST vocals, but he had the most creative ideas, best planned out ideas, though his executions were severely lacking at the beginning he improved dramatically with last night's performance. He can also make some fantastic arrangements for the songs, he really conveys the meat and heart of the song in a minute and thirty seconds, something only two or three other contestants can do... he doesn't just sing the song he makes you feel it...

He was for sure in my top five with last night's performance , Canada just goofed by letting the eye sore and ear bleed Mark Day stay. I mean can we not honestly say that he butchered that song last night?

Sebastian, Mitch, Amberly, Earl and Adam (no particular order) were my top five... only four remain, and now Theo slips into Adam's spot; thus reinventing my top five...

Are we watching the same show? The only highlight of the medley was the last trio. The rest were awful. Earl, Mookie and Drew did the best job.

Sebastian makes my skin crawl whenever I see him sing. Katherine reminds me of a badly perform high school "airband." I change the channel whenever they perform. If these two yahoos remain on the show I'm gonna stop watching it.

Sebastian has to force every note out of his throat. He doesn't sing naturally like Amberly or Mookie. Can't even understand what Kathrine is singing most of the time. I personally think both of them along with Mitch and Mark shouldn't have been in the top 10 to begin with.

Mookie is the one with the most star qualities. He's the main reason I'm watching Canadian Idol. He has the best chance of becoming a star outside of Canada. The rest will just fade into obscurity. Mookie doesn't need to win this to become a success.

I watched Canadian Idols few times especially the solo two days ago,it was like a show" Just For laugh".It is so funny to see this.It should be renamed "Canadian just for laugh Idol" though.

I'm also a Sebastian fan - he's a great performer. His brother Oliver shovld've been in the top 10 too. Loved his version of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. I also think Theo, Mitch and Mookie all have it goin' on.
One of the best Top 10's on this show, so far. Oh yeah, Earl's a hoot! Drew's also a contender.
Song choice is definitely key for these guys.
Most of the time, a good performance of a familiar song wins out.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.

sebastian's performance was terrible. if adam had not been the absolute worst, he would have been sent home for sure. too bad that mark got into the top ten too, he is absolutely terrible, and has no star quality, and basically looks like a singing cartoon character. its just sucks that he has all of newfoundland backing him, which unfortunately means he could be around for a loooong time. my favourites were mitch and earl, who are the only two i could stand singing bowie songs. theos performance are absolutely great, but sound exactly the same, and he never sways from turning every song into some form of an emotional ballad. the singers this year are much better than before, but i think some people were kicked out who should have definitely made it into the top ten, and its sad to see people voting for their hometown idols, instead of those who are actually great singers.

I voted for Adam last night. Considering the options, I couldn't believe he was in the bottom 3 never mind that he went home. I'm choked.

15. Robert -
That guy THEO has to be the winner...as he's the ONLY ONE who can really sing....All other "noise-makers" can go home...as well as the very boring, shouting,phony-sounding Mulroney...

16. Ba-B-Bmr -
I think the only one with any kind of star quality is Theo. As for the others, I cannot stand any of them. I won't put names to any but some of them look half in the bag!

17. Lats -
Sebastian has zero talent and will be the next to go!!

18. Yahoo! Music User -
I really like Mitch. He is so talented and I really like his voice; it's easy on the ears. He doesn't come out and wail and scream like some other contestants. I really like his personality too, he is so humble, you can tell just by watching the way he acts. Mitch is the opposite of Mark Day. I can't stand Mark Day, he is so full of himself and he acts like he is so fabulous and he's not, he's just a kid that needs exercise. Mitch's version of Moonage Daydream was incredible. I watched his performance so many times over and over again. I just can't get enough of him. I voted for Mitch 200 times. I had my house phone in one hand and my cell phone in the other. It was crazy but it was all worth it. I absolutely love Mitch!!! I think he should be in the top 3.

19. canucksruleyup -
Theo's my fave but that's partly because I know him and his family mostly because the guy can really sing.

20. ballycastle -
I agree with you, livinontop,Mark does need to go and it better be next week as I can't stand him either. Although this year has not been as good as others...IDOL is getting to be too much. A.I. & C.I. Now another one is starting next Monday. Yahoo!music user you are spot on with your description of Mark Day.
