Canadian Idol:
For anyone who has experienced loss, my heart goes out to you, as I too know that pain.
When coming to terms with loss it is said that we pass through stages of healing. First shock, then mourning, then grief, followed by anger and if you choose to repeat that cycle, you may. During the Canadian Idol results show of Wednesday July 9th, I passed though these stages within the span of roughly 8 minutes. Yup, 8.
For those of you who may not have been able to tune in, I regret to inform you that Oliver Pigott is no longer a contestant. I will now pause and allow a brief moment of silence to mourn this loss.

Thank you.
I would also like to take this opportunity to confess that while I do indeed like surprises, I do not like being wrong. I don’t like it one bit. I agree (for the most part) with the eliminations that took us from 16 to 10 hopefuls. What I don’t agree with is Oliver not being one of the Top 10! I was shocked! Honestly, people believe that Adam Castelli, Mookie Morris or Katherine St-Laurent or even Drew Wright for that matter are more talented than Oliver Pigott? I don’t believe it! Drew, I kinda understand. Those eyes and the way he performed Neverending White Lights, “The Grace” was pretty amazing…but still!
After a hint of rage I got a little sad for Oliver. As the big brother, the authentic modern blues man, the one who inspired little brother Sebastian to delve into music, he got the boot? I entered a minor stage of grief in his honour, then I got mad! I vented to my friend about how this was a perfect example of why albums don’t sell and why the industry is the way it is. When it comes to recognizing, nurturing and rewarding talent, we turn our backs on those we should support; the artists with real chops. Instead, we turn our attention to the ones that make us laugh! (I.e Mark Day)
I for one would like to say good luck to Oliver Pigott and state for the record that if you, Oliver, perform in Toronto, I will be there! I will bring friends and I will even buy you a drink!
Before I sign off, I would also like to publicly apologize to my friends neighbours, who most likely heard my cries of outrage during the results show of Wednesday evening. Sorry, but I witnessed a serious injustice and am quite a vocal person!
To the remaining Top 10 I say this, some of you got lucky, don’t waste this second chance. Pick great songs, songs that you can vocally own and make that performance rock! Oh, and Sebastian, you are my favourite! Go Piggot go!
