TIFF: Get The Party Started

Posted Thu Sep 4, 2008 8:29am PDT by Jordan Gracey in Reality Bites

The Toronto International Film Festival may officially kick off September 4th, but tonight, Wednesday September 3rd, was when the parties began!

I have just returned home from an exclusive, posh, crème de la crème party on one of the most exclusive roof top patios in all of Toronto. Why was I there?  Because the Canadian Film Center (CFC) and eTalk hosted the annual Film Makers Reception tonight at the members only Spoke club.  (The CFC is an institution for training in film, television and new media.  They are also the champions behind the Worldwide Short Film Festival.)

Since, for me, this was the party to kick off TIFF 2008 I think it’s a great opportunity to evaluate what makes a killer TIFF party.

Well, obviously the guest list is a major factor.

In attendance tonight were Laney Gossip, Tanya Kim, Ben Mulroney, numerous taste-makers, film makers, up and coming stars and various pop culture guru’s.  On a personal side note, the biggest wow for me was that fellow Canadian and super cute actor Scott Speedman was on the guest list.

Once inside, the party is all about the scene.  Playing on the plasma screen were preview clips of some of the most buzz worthy movies to be screened at TIFF this year.  That earned excitement points for sure.  The open bar and free food were delicious and presented beautifully and the guests were all dressed in that oh so “In-Style” summer chic/ entertainment industry funky yet class way.

The weather held out, allowing all party goers to enjoy the rooftop under the stars. With the warm summer breeze blowing through and guests dishing about whose films are garnering the most buzz, why this year’s TIFF will be better than last year’s and of course who they predict will be seen with who, it was a everything a TIFF party should be.  The scene itself looked like something out of a movie, sadly there were no romantic liaisons or dramatic outbursts, at least none that I saw.

After a taste of TIFF last night, I’m psyched and ready to kick it into high gear tonight for the official commencement of the festival!

Wonder who I’ll be snuggled in next to in a dark theatre over the next few days or who I may accidentally spill a drink on at some of the parties!

See you at TIFF!

Love these insights into TIFF. Brand new portal to the annual celebrity scene. Maybe you'll scan some old music idols with film scores. Wish you'd covered the death of the GREAT Isaac Hayes and SHAFT. Rock on with the flicks.
