Canadian Idol: Sonbirds

Posted Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:06pm PDT by Jordan Gracey in Reality Bites

At this point in the Idol race, some may say it’s pretty obvious who the best hopeful is.  A few weeks ago, I think I would have said and probably did say that Theo was the best of the pack.  Well, after watching the hopefuls take on Anne Murray, I’m no longer so sure.

I still stand behind my statement that I think Theo has been consistently strong throughout the entire season, showcasing his talent beautifully.  A few weeks ago though, I also started to pay much closer attention to Drew.  Well actually, it wasn’t so much that I was paying more attention, but that he was commanding more attention.  Dude, Drew is workin’ it!  He has come so far, become more confident, nailing it vocally, playing on his versatility even winning over the judges.  You can hear how far he’s come not only during his performance but in the cheers from the crowd.

My second fave is now…ready for it?  EARLE! Hahaha, I know, I’m a total hypocrite but at least I can admit it.  That being said, I don’t think that Drew or Earle are Idol material and that’s because I don’t think that they should be forced into the Idol mould.  I also think they’ve got too much rocker in them and could/should go on to be the backbone to a band!  I also think that Theo could be just what the Canadian Idol franchise needs to revitalize it.  Maybe CTV was right, that this was going to be the most notable Idol yet?

Before we could get down to the nerve wracking part (for the hopefuls), we were treated to two performances from the legendary Anne Murray and a performance from American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks.

Jordin Sparks seemed more nervous post performance than the hopefuls did as they waited to hear who was getting the boot.  Sent home was “Canada’s Best Friend” Earle.

When watching the re-cap of Earle’s time on Idol, I felt a tad like a you-know-what for being so down on him, but in the end I was right, he wasn’t going to be the next Idol.  Earle however did end on a very memorable note, trying to start a train comprised of audience members during his final song, sadly no one rose to the occasion.

So, Earle, good luck with whatever you choose to do musically and I assure you that you have been one of the most memorable hopefuls to ever grace the Idol stage.

Peace!
