Canadian Idol: Not such a sure thing
The aspiration to be a popular musician leads to disappointment and frustration more often than to success or the top of the charts, typically. For some artists the road to popularity is full of one step forwards matched with another step back. With that being said, Canadian Idol has begun to trim the fat and I for one can’t say that I’m at all surprised to see whose gotten the boot thus far. There is one contestant however that I feel for and that’s Lindsay Robbins.
When Lindsay Robbins took the stage as a Canadian Idol contestant, you may have felt like you already knew her, that’s because you did. Think back a few years to that sham of a VJ search that MuchMusic ran back in 2006. Well, the theme song, “What Would You Do” was sung by none other than *insert drum roll here*, Lindsay Robbins! The theme song was catchy, she had the look and a built-in fan base thanks to CHUM. She also ended up on tour supporting Simple Plan! Fame was the next logical step right? Apparently not. Instead, Lindsay found herself back as an undiscovered talent on Canadian Idol! Ouch!
I felt Lindsay seemed strangely familiar when I tuned into this season of Idol. However I didn't instantly recognize her. Which might say something. I thought that perhaps the familiarity was a result of Lindsay’s odd resemblance to Avril Lavigne. When I put the pieces together regarding why Lindsay seemed so familiar, I was a little shocked! I felt that she had an unfair upper hand over her fellow contestants. How could Canadian Idol do this? Was it part of a larger record company plot to launch Lindsay? How unfair! I was a tad outraged, then I witnessed Lindsay get eliminated. How much does that suck? This contest should have been in the bag for her, no? Apparently not.
Those hopefuls still battling it out with, what I feel is a real shot are:
Marie-Pierre, The Pigott brothers (still more in favour of Sebastian), Gary Morrissette, Amberly Thissen, Drew Wright and Earle Stevenson.
