Canada Rocks: Let's Hear It For The Boys!
In keeping with the theme of the week, Canada rocks, the musical mentors of the week Simple Plan took to the stage tonight and performed their new single “Your Love Is A Lie”.
At this point we all knew what was next right? Well…tonight, Canadian Idol threw us a curve ball. Don’t worry, someone was sent home. But I think it was a great way of showing the remaining Idol hopefuls that sometimes doing something totally out of left field will get an audience in the palm of your hand! I know I for one was actually moved to the edge of my seat!
Ben Mulroney removed three hopefuls from the couch, Mitch, Theo and Mookie the way he does every week, from here, one is usually sent-a-packin’. Not so this week, these three were safe. It was those on the couch; Earle, Amberly and Drew that found themselves in the bottom three. Then, as if the results were a band-aid, without any build up, Ben announced that Amberly was going home. Rip!
I’ll be the first girl to say that chicks can go toe to toe with the boys, throw down and even come out on top. However, when the odds are stacked against you, sometimes you just feel like throwing in the towel. At the risk of being slightly offensive, I think Amberly’s performance last night was her throwing in the towel. The assignment was to rock, she chose to stick in her singer/songwriter safety zone rut. She didn’t break the mould, use the stage, or thrill the audience and then tonight felt the results of a bad showing first hand. How cool would it have been if Amberly had busted out on stage and taken on a Holly McNarland, Melissa Auf Der Maur or even Bif Naked song!? After all, Canadian chicks actually rock out too!
Next week the hopefuls take on The Beatles! I predict a great showing from Theo and Drew. I'm even looking forwards to seeing Earle go mod. I haven't given up on Mitch though! My hope is that he shakes it up and takes a chance because I’m not ready for him to go...yet.
