Paris For President? That's Hot!

Posted Wed Aug 6, 2008 8:11am PDT by Jordan Gracey in Reality Bites

The 2008 Presidential race has been unlike any other we have seen.  For the Democrats, it has been a race full of firsts.  One of the most notable being that Senator Clinton was the first female to run against Senator Obama, the first black candidate for leadership.  You couldn’t go anywhere without experiencing some form of media coverage pitting these two against each other.  So much so that the Republican candidates were overshadowed, at least from what I saw.  Due to all the media attention, the candidates have been more like celebrities than they have political figures.  Exposing themselves, not literally, via every possible media channel and social network, being endorsed by various musicians, pop culture figures and the like have made them total celebrities.  Well, at least the “popular” candidates became celebrities.  Left in dust of the popularity race was Senator John McCain, who has decided to fight back using the only ammunition he has; celebrity.

As you may have heard, there’s a war going on, and nope, I’m not talking about a war against terror.  Rather, a war against...celebrity.  Thanks to tabloids and paparazzi, we get to see celebs at their most unsavory moments.  So, what are the Republicans trying to do?  Basically say that since Obama has obtained levels of celebrity, that he's unfit to run a country.  Nice try guys!  Senator McCain is trying to do anything he can in the final months leading up to the November 4th election to earn some votes.  Check out the video that compares Senator Obama to our tabloid-gracing, table-dancing, paparazzi meal tickets Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Even more eyebrow raising is this; Paris Hilton is on top of current events enough that she was able to put together her own rebuttal and…it’s amazing!

I think McCain might want to re-think his mud-slinging strategy.  Obama knows how to work the media, his celebrity status has earned him celebrity support and even Paris is looking like a better candidate than McCain right now.

I leave you now with the latest from Outkast's Big Boi ft. Mary J. Blidge.  This "celebrity endorsed video" supports...Obama.

J-Rock: Your insights are valuable on celebrity and appreciate seeing the music scene trying to rock on for impact on presidential election scene, but both the Hilton video and the Mary Blidge endorsement show money can't by smarts nor can it get youth to a ballot box.

Remember all the time and money and effort during the last campaign when celebrity and lots of music biz celebrities picked tunes to motivate the youth vote? Didn't happen.

Great to see you showcase the effort. The SUMTHIN' that has to give is candidates who don't serve us up pulp to a great beat or to an old tune because of polling.

Keep nailing it. Love the Reality.

She should run like ZZ Top did in the 70's...well, people wrote them on their ballot

know what really sucks? that a celebrity is the one talkin bout the ONLY energy plan that is doable, affordable, and environment friendly. If paris promised to stick to that energy plan, i would definitely vote for her! obama should have her on his team, so the greatest ideas like that would keep on comin!

That will make the two candidates to rethink their would be energy policies. he,he,he....

Paris's energy idea is a very good one. Now if the Big Three in Detroit would just stop panicking about sales dropping, and make these hybrid cars. The technology has been around for a long time - but the big three always manage to shut down the hybrid production line - probably because they're not the ones making the millions.

For the first time in my life I'm going to say I admire Paris Hilton. I won't go as far as being a fan--no thank you--but I think she (or at least with the help of very clever writers) has done quite a good thing with this ad. Just enough self-mocking to make it bearable. Of course her real target got this well-deservedly. I'm also going to say a woman I never found terribly attractive looks quite nice in that swimsuit. She's still no Jessica Alba, but better looking than I thought. Good energy plan, too.

The energy plan is a good idea and I can't believe that Paris spoke reasonably well. She actually sounded like she had more than just a few flighty blonde brain cells, which is a first!

That was a very good spoof and her writers did do a very good job. They actually made Paris sound almost credible for a change.

Methinks that Paris needs to spend more time having conversations with her writers and other more intelligible souls than the bimbo, blonde ambition crowd that she has been cavorting with in the past.

Its really too bad that more Americans couldnt and still refuse to see that their problems are all related to Mr. George Bush!
The video clip is a great one MJ Blidge...Something has to change!
