Canadian Idol: Today was the day!
Well, apparently last week’s harmonious Idol medley was a fluke. Last week I said that the hopefuls have figured out how to come together as a group. Well, after tonight, I can say this, my converse don’t taste that great. How do I know? Because tonight, my foot found its way into my mouth. Tonight the hopefuls performed another medley and instead of pulling it off as a group they went right back to falling apart…together…as a group.
At least Sir Tom Jones was waiting in the wings. Tom took to the stage and proved that after something crazy like 40 years in the business, he’s still got it, fitted disco pants and all! In fact, Tom Jones is still so with it that he has a new album hitting iTunes and those relics that were once known as record stores in October. I for one can’t wait for that music video!
After all that fun, it was time to send someone home. The bottom three were; Theo, Earle, and Mark Day. So, back in went that foot. I was way off with my predictions after the performances on Monday night, minus my call for Mark being in the bottom. Had Theo performed seated at his piano, there’s no way he would have missed out on so many votes! He had better figure out how to work that stage if he’s going to show everyone how Idol is won eh Sass? As for Earle, I still say he’s better than Mookie!
Sent packing was the boy from St. John’s, NL with the natural comedic gift. Mark Day was the odd one out from day one which became increasingly obvious as the numbers dwindled. Somehow Mark ended up on the Idol stage instead of on the set of the next Seth Rogan comedy and held on ‘till the Top 7. His ability to perform served him well. If anything he also solidified the fact that the class clown is often underestimated but destined for a spotlight.
Mark, I have two words of advice for you; Second City.
Next week…Simple Plan come to town to work with the Idol hopefuls!
