Canadian Idol: Talkin’ ‘bout some hopefuls
The Idol hopefuls went from unplugged to supercharged for tonight’s results show. The hopefuls kicked things off with The Who’s “My Generation”. For the first time this season, the hopefuls were able to perform together as a unit while bringing elements of their personality to the stage successfully. Two highlights, Sebastian jumping up on the judges table and Earle rolling out onto the stage on his skateboard.
The real highlight of tonight’s results show however was a performance by Gavin Rossdale. It’s only fair that after the workshops he conducted with the hopefuls that he step up to the mic and put his advice to work. Performing the lead single, “Love Remains the Same” off his recent solo effort “Wanderlust”, he did just that. Recorded with Canadian great Bob Rock, this album showcases a much softer more introspective Gavin than anyone (other than wife Gwen) has ever seen before.
I thought that the show was just going to keep getting better for me when both Mookie and Mark were in the bottom three. Apparently not, one of my favourite idol hopefuls, Sebastian joined them as the bottom third and was sent home. I can’t say that I’m shocked, he’s unfortunately found himself in the bottom a few times and based on some of the comments from those of you that have been reading weekly, he’s not a fan favourite. Frankly, I think he’s too much for the Idol audience. He’s anything but cookie-cutter and I don’t think that covering other people’s music has allowed him to really showcase his talents.
Sebastian understands how to entertain and I feel confident saying that it just comes naturally to him. Regardless of the fact that he got voted off, I still stand behind my earlier statement that Sebastian is a true talent. In the end, I firmly believe that he will be better off not earning the Idol title. I also predict that this won’t be the last that you hear or see of Sebastian Pigott. I leave you now with this footage of the Pigott brothers performing at Holy Joe’s in Toronto. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-y-5xQ-Lrbc&feature=related
Oh, and one last thing; Zack, nice plug for your new band. Ladies and Gentlemen, Haymaker.
Now, who would you rather see live? The Pigott brothers or Haymaker?

See you at the cd release party? I;m watching the brothers' myspace for the date!
